PeSzy: Hi Illia, how are you? In Poland we now have a total ban on sporting events. Clubs are closed. The same is or will be in other countries. That is why most athletes only have at their disposal an apartment, a garden near the house, in the best position, small equipment. What should they do?

 

Illia Izman: Hi PeSzy. It's a hard time for all of us. Not only in Poland, but around the world there are a number of restrictions on the functioning of the gym. Ukraine is no exception. Now the most important thing for anyone in the current quarantine situation and recommended insulation is to stay at home. This is the most important contribution to future victories for every athlete of our time.

 

PeSzy: How to change the order of the training cycle? In the end - it will end sometime, maybe some competitions will take place in May?

 

Illia Izman: When it comes to building a training cycle: remember that alternating cycle changes (power cycle / endurance / regeneration) will always be effective, regardless of the bans. It is difficult to measure the degree of load if you only work with tapes or rubbers. If you have weights that you are aware of, don't forget to build a split workout based on light, medium and heavy workouts. In this case, you can track your progress. Regarding rubber bands: you can increase the load in three ways. First of all: if you use two loops at the same time. Alternating workouts with one rubber loop and two loops, you can dose the weight. Second: you can easily use a stiff and soft loop alternately. Third method: distance to the place of attachment of the rubber loops. In this case, you should track the distance you are exercising.

As for the competition in May - I'm not so optimistic - considering the relocation of the Olympic Games and other sporting events.

 

PeSzy: You are young, so of course you didn't have a similar situation in your life, but - what do you hear from the elderly, athletes, trainers?

 

Illia Izman: I'm 36 years old. I consist of water, blood, bones and a small amount of brain tissue - like all people on Earth. All who consider themselves terrestrials are at risk of infection. Absolutely everyone worries. Adults, people over the age of 60, worry no less than others, and maybe even more. I hear that people around me are calling for calmness and compliance with security measures.

 

PeSzy: How are you in this situation? Do you have access to a gym?

 

Illia Izman: I don't have access to the gym.

I planned a five-day workout using improvised weights and rubber loops. No sparring. My program gives me the necessary load so that I can make progress.

 

PeSzy: I know that little depends on us, but - what to advise the youngest. So many rookies were preparing for this season.

 

Illia Izman: I can advise all armwrestlers to protect their health and remain calm. For young athletes thirsty for battle - be patient - time is the best assistant. When it comes to training - I will give the simplest and cheapest tips.

Train alone outside, away from people. The horizontal bar and bars have always been a good help in developing the physical characteristics of athletes in various sports. If you have rubber loops - you can apply the load necessary to increase the results, imitating the basic exercises from a regular training plan. In addition, you can attach great importance to technique on rubbers - because this is what young athletes often sin, reluctant to practice technical methods in the gym, preferring weight lifting and sparring. If your arsenal of equipment includes fabric straps, then using five-liter bottles of water you can do many special exercises for arm wrestling. Biceps, static and dynamic exercises - this is enough to maintain physical condition and even give progress. The best conditions for those who have inexpensive equipment at home (or in the garage, as is often the case in North America), you can properly continue training. The fact that there are no sparring is not scary for professionals, but for beginner athletes it is better to limit themselves to analyzing the fights of players who appeal to them and simulating technical techniques on rubber loops. Take care of yourself, I hope that soon we will all see each other in tournaments. I want to go through this stage without losses and only gain: in technology, in self-education, in building strong family relationships and the ability to survive - without this quality sport is impossible.
