On the 6th of June 2009 for the third time The Open Championships during the Olympic Picnic were played. Although the date of the event collided with the 19th European Championships around 30 athletes from the Polish armwrestling world have showed up in Warsaw. The competitors had some great weather and the fantastic atmosphere of the Olympic picnic. The athletes came from several Polish armwrestling cities such as: Bydgoszcz, Tomaszów Mazowiecki, Węgrów and Wołomin. The event had an opened form, which meant that every person who came to the picnic could have competed. The organizer have not forgotten about the youngest group of potential armwrestlers and provided a mini version of the table for kids.

The competition itself has been played in 4 men’s weight categories and 1 kid’s category. Right from the beginning it was obvious that the competitors are well prepared and no one came to Warsaw to be beaten easily.

The first weight category was the 63kg category in which Tomasz Rucz of Pyton Warsaw was unbeatable.

The next category- 78kg, 12 competitors. After some tough fights, without a loss the category was won by Mariusz Podgórski from Warsaw. The runner up Grzegorz Cukier on his way to the final had won against the reign Polish vice champion – Mariusz Chodyna

The most exiting category turned out to be the 95kg category. Many well know a Polish armwrestlers competed in this category including Tomasz Szewczyk of SDS Tomaszów Mazowiecki and Tomasz Tański of Złoty Niedźwiedź Bydgoszcz. The strongest athlete of this day turned out to be Tomasz Tarański who won all of his fights without a problem. Without a doubt the competition won’t be a pleasant memory for Tomasz Szewczyk one of our main Polish armwrestlers who struggled to take the second place. Krzysztof Pieloch came third and he seems to be getting better every competition.

The last category – men’s open. 8 athletes competed in this category, and again Tomasz Tański has proven that he was the strongest that day winning against Mariusz Podgórski

Of course the event had a really friendly atmosphere and attracted a lot of spectators and many of them have tried their skills on the table.
