POLAND 2 MEDALS AT EURO ARM 2011 # Armwrestling # Armpower.net

()

Over 500 competitors from 26 countries, many international stars, 2 medals for the Polish National Team - the silver of Kornellia Maśnik from Choszczno for the right hand in +60kg class of disabled and bronze of Andrzej Głąbała from Rumia for the right hand +100kg grand masters class, team domination of the Russians and the 12th place of the Polish National Team- so you can briefly report on the 21st Armwrestling Championships - Turkey 2011.

The host of this year's European rivalry, held from the 8th to the 15th of May 2011 was a tourist town of Kemer (Antaylia region) in Turkey. Exactly 509 competitors faced off to compete for the best places of the 22nd European Championships in following classes: junior, seniors, masters, grand masters and disabled. Poland was represented by the National Team consisted of 13 people, chosen at the start at April Polish Championships in Nisko this year.

"In the history of the starts of the Polish Armwrestling National Team we have already noted some better take-offs of our competitors. This year we returned to the country with only or perhaps as many as two medals. Our country was represented, after all, by 13 competitors only. Compared with the team leaders - Russian representation, which issued 116 players, our staff was extremely modest. Many of us almost reached the podium, which in a result gave as the 12th place among 26 countries in overall team classification. I think that next year European struggle will come off much better. The fact that it will be held in Poland, in Gdansk, makes us do the best we can, as the host"-said the President of the Polish Federation Armwrestling, and also a direct participant in the championship - Igor Mazurenko from Gdynia

Favorites messed up!

At this year's Euro Arm we really counted on medals of the bet in advance Polish favorites. Unfortunately, silver medalist of last year's  juniors rivalry - Natalia Kwiatkowska from Koszalin did not reach the podium so as multiple medalist of the European and World Junior Championships - Małgorzata Ostrowska from Strzegom. It is true that Małgosia won her earlier medals in the junior class, but for such an experienced competitor in this year's senior rivalry we hoped for much more. So the representative of Strzegomia finnished this year's European competition in the senior 65kg class on the 12th place for the left hand and on the 10th for the right hand.

Among the European medalists we did not see the vice World Champion from 2006 - Sławomir Głowacki from Inowrocław either. Slawek finally in senior 110 kg class ranked at the 12rh place in the left hand rivalry and the 15th place in the right hand rivalry.

Unlike his team mates Igor Mazurenko from Gdynia scored quite a good start. Admittedly he did not win any Turkish medals, but in the masters 100 kg class (competitors over 40) almost reached the podium twice, eventually ranking 4th twice. Very good start scored also his club colleague - Andrzej Głąbała from Rumia. After a tough competition in the 100 kg grand masters class (competitors over 45), Andrzej in the left hand competition won the 5th position, while for the right hand he came back home with a medal brown. It was the second medal in the history of that competitor's starts (Andrzej won the bronze for the left hand at the European Championships in Hungary in 2006).

A pleasant surprise was the successful debut of a competitor from Choszczno - Kornellia Maśnik. In the +60kg disabled class for the right hand Kornelia won the silver medal. Congratulations!
