The beautiful city of Senec in Slovakia hosted European armwrestlers at an international tournament „Senec Hand 2010”, which took place on the 27th of March 2010 for the 17th time. 109 competitors from 6 countries f the old continent: Slovakia, Check Republic, Switzerland, Belgium, Hungary and Poland took part in the tournament. Fivefold Polish team consisted of: Marlena Wawrzyniak, Marta Opalińska, Mariusz Podgórski, Dominik Gliński, Artur Krok won 6 medals. But let’s start from the very beginning.

At 10.00 o’clock juniors began a rivalry at two tables. Marta Opalińska from Arm Fanatic Sport Grudziądz Club started in the only one girl class (+55kg). She won two gold medals, for left and right hand. Then, for the first time, before the beginning of the senior classes rivalry we were able to hear “Dąbrowski’s Mazurka” in Senec  Community Centre .

Senior began their fights at about 1.00 p.m. At up to 65kg class Dominik Gliński from Pyton Warsaw Club started. Unfortunately he cannot find his start successful. In spite of his brave attitude,  he managed to win only one fight for left hand. Though it was his first start at international tournament, we would like to congratulate on the début.  Additionally Dominik is preparing for the Polish Championships so the competitions were more a trainings for him. We believe that the gained experience will bear fruit in the future.

In up to 70kg class Polish representative Mariusz Podgórski came also from Pyton Warsaw Club. For left hand Mariusz passed the eliminations with no defeat to meet a really good Hungarian competitor Laszlo Kollarovicsem in the cup-final.  As well as in the eliminations he found out the way to beat the talented competitor for the second time that day. He began the right hand rivalry in quite a surprising way by sleeping over the start which made him lost for the first and the last time that day.

Mariusz reached the cup-final in a beautiful way, and there Laszlo Kollarovics from Hungary was waiting for him the next time. But also he had to approve the majority over the Polish competitor in both duels.  This way our competitor got two gold medals and we were able to hear the hymn of Poland once more.

Also senior women began their rivalry. The up to 60kg class in which our only junior - Marta Opalińska took part, was driven first. The Pole turned to be unbelievable for left hand during fights with much older and experienced armwrestlers.  Thanks to her concentration and will of fighting, she managed to rank third after pulling out the competitors’ hand from the below of side pads. Unfortunately something was missing for right hand and the Polish junior had to approve the majority of her opponents.

In next women class (+60kg) Marlena Wawrzyniak, who started only for right hand that day stood at the table. After a surprising  fast lost in the first fight Marlena did not give her opponents any chances.  The strongest Pole for right hand had the opportunity to fight many times in a way that made her win in a beautiful style. Meeting her opponent from the first fight she proved that she is better. The opponent could not even move her hand. In the cup-final she met the World Champion Lucia Debnarova. However the Slovakian competitor did not give our competitor any opportunity to win. Marlena had to regard her more experienced competitor’s superiority.

In up to 75kg right hand class Artuk Krok from Zakopane took part in a rivalry. The Pole fought bravely making a stand against other competitors. Although having a good attitude he did not manage to reach a good position.

The Polish National Team won 6 medals, 4 gold, silver and brown,  for 17 available. We would like to thank our representatives for brave and gallant attitude and the participation in the tournaments, and we would also like to congratulate all the medalists.
