Reza Dilmaghanian: «I want to make my two coaches proud!» # Armwrestling # Armpower.net

American athlete and referee Reza Dilmaghanian will come to Zloty Tur to show his best! ()

As I know, you are going to pull at Zloty Tur and to work as a camera referee. Is there a difference between refereeing at the table and with camera? What is more difficult as for you?

– I believe there is a big difference between cam reffing and just reffing. When you ref your focused on the elements at hand like hand position, capping, and the grip up, the match and elbow fouls, pins and parallel pins. I believe both are similar. But the cam ref has allotted more to do with documents and replays, as well as ringing the match bell and helping with testing equipment. I believe the camera ref’s job is more difficult only because they have so much more work. Mentally that’s speaking... I believe the main ref has a more laborious job.

Do you do some favors for sportsmen when you work at the camera?

– I don't favor any athletes before a tournament or while the tournament is going. If someone has a question to ask about particular rules I am straight forward and let them know the same facts I’d tell any other athlete. Equality in expression is of importance when being a ref!

– You were working with Chris Chandler during the fight between Tim Bresnan and Alexey Voevoda. Once Voevoda noticed Tim’s elbow foul. Can you definitely say, was there a foul?

In regards to Alexey’s match I'd have to review the footage. That’s the beauty of the cameras they tell no lies, don’t blink and don’t make mistakes like we humans do.

Going back to your 1st question.

I believe in time the elbow pads should have sensors, the pin pad should have sensors, there should be a laser above the table pointed down at the point between the thumb knuckles. And there should be a cam ref and the main ref and they should call parallel wins... Other than that we have the technology to make the matches happen pretty much without refs. This again is in time.

What do you think about problems you meet when you work with cameras? Do you think that cameras offend referee (as, for example, soccer referees think)?

– Problems that occur during reffing I believe shouldn't be spoken about because athletes may try and take advantage of particular things that are possible to effect matches or the way we perceive the match through the cameras eyes. I believe as people in general we get upset about not being right. So I think head refs and the downside ref cam take it personal. Yet I’ve never encountered it with the refs I’ve worked with.

What are your plans for ZT? How do you feel before the championship? What do you expect from this year Zloty Tur?

– My plans for the Zloty Tur as an athlete are to simply do my best. To make my two coaches proud. Igor Mazurenko and Allen Fisher. My hands are gold and I’m right at 63kg. Other then that only the day of competition will determine how I really feel about the particulars of my abilities. I like positive thinking and meditation and know what I know what I know as Travis Bagent’s father would say...

What I expect from this year’s zloty is some of the most intense match seen to date. This should be amazing! Every year more countries join our sport and every year the competition is advancing as this sport advances to new heights!
