Treatment of armwrestling injuries: surgical treatment # Armwrestling # Armpower.net

Unfortunately, some injuries require surgical intervention. ()

The most common is the spiral break of radial bone, suffered mostly by fighters with bad technique, who put themselves in dangerous positions. A break like that requires repositioning and internal connection with metal plates and bolts, which facilitate the return to natural bone shape. This procedure will leave a substantial scar. It can be avoided by applying the Kirchner procedurewires entered through very small incisions in the radial epicondylus area.

In elbow joint sprains, surgery is used only when side ligaments are damaged and joint is destabilized, or when elbow protuberance is broken / vessels or nerves are damaged.

Another injury that requires surgery is damage to bicep. When long head is damaged, its tendons are sewn under tension into a surgically made hole in the radial bone core. When short head gets damaged, it is sewn under tension to the coracobrachialis muscle or to the long bicep head. If a break happens in the further fastening of the muscle to the radial bone protuberance, surgical recreation of the fastening is necessary.

Wrist canal tension symptoms usually appear for a specified reason, namely frequent training. Unfortunately, the reason for this ailment cannot be eliminated. The most efficient way to deal with the situation is cutting the flexor strap lengthwise and leaving it cut. The edges of the strap separate, scar tissue forms over them, which then evolves into a nee, wider strap, after about six weeks. Thanks to this procedure, the median nerve that runs through the canal is not under pressure. This procedure can be performed arthroscopically or classically, with a small incision on the wrist. Hospitalization is usually not necessary. A break in any physical work is necessary for about six weeks, and rehabilitation can be performed at home without constant assistance of therapist.
