The matches were that exciting that the tables had to be chained down. But, apart from the matches a lot was going on. Look at the pictures found in the archive. ()

VENDETTA #30, 30 July 2007; Ukraine, Yalta

Match #1 Artur Glowinski vs Andrey Brik. The 6-round match started off with Artur’s quick win in the first round. In the second round, however, Brik was the one to win (Glowinski was awarded more fouls than Brik). As if knowing his opponent’s technique, the Russian competitor walked through the match winning each round to finally beat Artur 5:1.

Match #2 John Brzenk vs Taras Ivakin. It was evident that Ivakin was really well-prepared. In spite of losing in the first round, he didn’t give up and it paid off for he became master of the situation in the second round. The third round witnessed a change in Brzenk’s tactics and the match went to straps. Everyone could see how experienced John was in this type of fight. In the next round Taras again proved how well-prepared he was beating his opponent easily. The result was 2:2.

Emotions began to reach their peak. The two final rounds also went to straps and ended with John Brzenk beating his rival.

Match #3 Alexey Semerenko vs Farid Usmanov. Controversy could literally be felt in the air during their final (drawn) confrontation. Many observers and fans believed that Usmanov was stronger than his rival. The match went to straps and Alexey Semerenko turned out to be stronger for he scored the first point. The second round ended with the same result, again the Ukrainian competitor won. The third round was a display of power, yet this time Farid managed to beat his opponent. In the heat of the match the competitors moved the armwrestling table. As a result of this small incident, the organizers had the table chained down. Despite Semerenko’s hard efforts, the remaining rounds were dominated by Farid Usmanov who eventually beat his Ukrainian opponent 4:2.

And a lot was going on after the matches…
