XXII Armwrestling European Championships
13th-20th May 2012, Gdansk - Poland
These will be the third tournaments in a career of this experienced competitor of Wiking Nisko. At this year’s Polish Championships in Grudziadz he ranked second on the left hand and third on the right one in 75kg class. Both he and Rafal Wozny of Black Scorpion he will be representing Poland in the same class. In our Polish Team there will be some more Vikings: in 70kg class - Mateusz Wyrwa, in 100 kg class – Rafal Padlo. And on a reserve list there are also: junior Piotr Radzik and Marcin Wolfinger w +110 kg.
Lately at Darek’s profile there was a photograph of a gym in the open air. Of course we had to ask him about the detail in our interview.
Darek, what is that place in the photo?
Dariusz Groch: It’s our private, open air gym where I practice with my brother. It is a kind of lean-to our garage at the backyard. And the table which can be seen in the photo was made by our grandfather. Generally Vikings practice in a room, that was assigned to them by the city authorities after the Polish Championships which took place in our city.
What about your shape?
Dariusz Groch: t’s good, even very good! Just a few days after coming back from Grudziadz I went on to training.
How will you do in Gdansk?
Dariusz Groch: I hope to win a medal!
Who will be your most threatening opponent?
Dariusz Groch: There are many well know players in my class. Inter alia Engin Terzi and Aleksander Bulenkow. To tell you the truth, I can’t wait to fight with them!
Did you change anything in your trainings?
Dariusz Groch: Not really, but after each tournament I try to draw conclusions – what do I have to work on and I focus mostly on particular elements.
Will you also appear as a referee?
Dariusz Groch: Of course! I volunteered to be a referee. These will be my third European Championships where I will be able to do this.
Won’t the long May weekend disturb your trainings?
Dariusz Groch: I’m going to Bieszczady, to get relaxed, fresh and shape!
So Darek see you in Gdansk.
Dariusz Groch: I’d like to invite all the fans to come to the European Championships!
