This year, first she won two gold medals at Polish Championships- left and right hand. Then, she was twice second at the European Championships. On the first day of the World Championships she took second position.
After her return to Poland, she was invited to join the FitMax Team.
Then, she prepared herself for the Professional World Cup. On the first day she won silver medal, whereas on the second she became the first Polish competitor to win in the female category at NEMIROFF WORLD CUP.
Marelna, what's most important in armwrestling?
When it comes to armwrestling it's passion that matters the most. Heart, persistency, dedication to training also count. Participation in competitions is, above all, a way to improve technical skills and gain experience. International tournaments are very important, because they are a kind of test before the most crucial competitions including European Championships, World Championships and Professional World Cup.
Did you have any difficult moments?
In my adventure with armwrestling there have been some difficult situations. „The secret of success is not to avoid failures, but to develop yourself thanks to them”. On the whole, all my failures have made me stronger. Consequently, I introduced some changes into my workout, focused on technical details and came up with some experimental forms of training. Thanks to all these means I managed to win the gold medal.
You're the first Polish woman to get the gold at the World Cup. How do you feel about it?
The victory at the World Cup is a particular success, the very date and final fight with a Russian competitor, a multiple world champion – Larina, is memorable.
Taking into consideration the fact that events such as NEMIROFF are attended by titled competitors, the gold and silver medals „taste” really good. Taking this opportunity I would like to thank my parents and my friends (for singing our Polish Hymn – it was a very moving moment), competitors, sponsors in, particular the main sponsor of our club – Mr Palinski- the „Instamet” company, as well as the whole FitMax Team- all those thanks to whom I can make my dreams come true.
Can you briefly sum up the passing year?
It was a very lucky time for me. For the first time in my life I won medals at the European Championships, World Championships and Professional World Cup . And next year the World Championships will take place in Poland so I'd like to wish male and female competitors fruitful training and successful performance in September 2013.
Thank you Marlena!
