You have fought in several leagues and you have something to compare ...
- In recent years, I have had the opportunity to participate in many championships, which were organized by different federations and leagues: it is, of course, WAF, PAL, WAL, UAL and Armwars. I am proud that at all these tournaments and organizations I was able to become the winner or the prize-winner for some time.
You are going to the World Championship. In what category will you fight?
- At the World Championship I will fight in the category up to 75 kg. I think it is have quite difficult to name my main contenders. I think, about ten athletes can win, their level is approximately equal to and some number of factors will influence on a result. But I can highlight the reigning world champion Shynbolat Raikhanov from Kazakhstan, current European champion Davit Samushia from Georgia. They are always in good shape. But we will see, it will be interesting.
What do you think is different is your preparation for the regular amateur competitions from training to professional?
- Firstly, I want to say that I do not really understand and support the separation of athletes to professionals and amateurs. Sometimes the competition, which we call amateur, have a very high level of organization, so they can be called professional.
Second, the basic physical qualities that are needed to use - in armfight or regular tournament – are almost the same, so I do not think it is necessary to prepare differently. If you know exactly your opponent in armfight, then you can have a specially selected exercises and prepare to work with strong and weak points specifically to the opponent.
I grew up in the fight at the Worlds and Europeans (WAF), so problems of adaptation to the rules should not exist. Sometimes it even more difficult to get used to the chaotic style of judging and setting a grip in WAL. There you can rely only on yourself.
Will you fight at Zloty Tour?
- At Zloty Tour I will not fight this year, but will come to see. The tournament is always very interesting and very exciting fight can happen there.
What do you think is easier for 75 kg sportsmen – to go to 70 kg class or 78 kg?
- I do not like to lose my weight. Over the past 15 years, my weight has not changed much - 76-77 kg, so it is not difficult to get to my weight category.
Of course, if there are good theoretical knowledge and perception of the body, it is possible for some time to gain or lose weight, and after it to make a successful performance, but I think that it affects the athlete's longevity and overall health. I do not recommend doing it.
What can you say about Dag Ehrlich? He promises to come to Zloty Tur, what are his chances?
- I didn’t met at the table with Doug Elrich, so I can not say anything about his struggle. But he is a high-class athlete, I saw how he fights and win strong and experienced athletes in America, so he has some chances.
But, of course, flying to another continent is hard. This is another area, so there will be very difficult to fight. Generally, in the United States in recent years, arm wrestling is booming, so the athletes can very well deal with the other. But also can be said of Europe and Asia. Armwrestling is everywhere the same.
