The continental meeting of the European Federation began with a speech of Niyazi Kurt, the President of the Turkish Arm Wrestling Federation. In his welcoming speech, Mr. Niyazi Kurt noted that the Turkish Armwrestling Federation had done everything possible to hold the World Armwrestling Championship at the highest possible level.
“Our main goal was for athletes from all over the world to remember this championship for the rest of their lives. We have made every effort to ensure the most comfortable conditions for living and training of athletes, as well as we have prepared special prizes for the winners of the Championship. For the first time in a new history of the World Championship, athletes who won first place in their category will receive the World Champion belt. "
Igor Mazurenko told armpower.net that, for the last time, World Champion belts were awarded to the winners of the absolute category in 1999 at the World Championships in Vladikavkaz. Then they were made of precious metals.
The next point of the Congress agenda was a brief analysis of the work done by the Federation over the past year. The floor was given to Vice-Presidents of the Federation.
After that, voting began for the venue for the European Championships 2019 and 2021. Congress participants heard a presentation from the representatives of Greece and Lithuania. The President of the Croatian Arm Wrestling Federation, Alexander Jakovac, asked a few questions about the prices for the accommodation of athletes in Greece. Around this issue a lively discussion ensued, which ended with the promise of the Greek event management company to revise prices downwards.
Since both proposals met the standards of the European Armwrestling Federation, President of the Federation Assen Hadjitodorov suggested to vote the host country 2019 and give the right to host the 2021 championship to the second candidate country.
According to the voting results, the right to host the European Championship in 2019 was won by Greece. The European Championships will be held in the picturesque Mediterranean town of Loutraki, which is known for its well-developed infrastructure for holding international tournaments in various sports disciplines.
Thus, Lithuania will hold the European Championship in 2021.
One of the important issues of the Congress was the acquisition of 50 doping tests for the 2019 European Championship. Participants voted for it, thus, another step was taken to combat the use of prohibited substances at the events of the European Federation.
On October 14, the World Armwrestling Federation Congress will be held and armpower.net will prepare a report for its readers.
