Deivydas Rimkus is a Lithuanian athlete who on Zloty Tur showed not only the worthiest results in his category, taking 4th place on the left and second on the right hand, but also showed himself well in the open class, which provided himself with the opportunity to fight for participation in Top 8. How is his preparation for the passing match going on in which he will meet with Dave Chaffee?
Deivydas, was the result of the Zloty Tur a surprise for you?
- I was really pleased with the result. I´ve been doing this for eight years now.
Tell us about yourself. How did you come to armwrestling? Why did you choose this sport? Do you have an idol?
- The reason why I chose this sport was because I watched my friends armwrestle in different contests. So, I wanted to try it out myself, and that went pretty well. I really liked it and my progress was really good. My goal back then was to become the best armwrestler in Lithuania and I did just that. Now my goal is to get into the top 8.
How do you usually train? What exercises do you pay the most attention to? How often do you fight at the table? Do you have a coach? How does he help you?
- I train really hard. 1-2 times a week I train at the armwrestling table and then 4 days in the gym. I live in Norway now so I usually train alone, so at the moment I Don’t train so much at the table because I have no one to train with. So, because of that I do workouts with weights.
To get into the main team of Top 8 you need to defeat Dave Chaffee. What can you say about this?
- I think Dave is one of the strongest in the world, so that is going to be a big challenge for me.
What do you think, how many rounds will you need to figure out who goes next?
- If I win a least one round it would be a great achievement for me.
Who will be your toughest opponent in Top 8?
- All the guys in the top 8 are very strong and I hope one day I can be at their level and compete against them.
