How did it happen and when did you start practicing Armwrestling? Why this and not some other sports discipline?

My adventure with armwrestling began in 2002. I've always had predispositions to this sport, so I wanted to try my hand at professional competitions. My beginnings were a series of trips to all kinds of tournaments and gain experience necessary for winning at the table. I think I have chosen this discipline that due to the fact that this is an individual sport requiring not only athlete’s great strength but also many intellectual factors influence the final result of the fight.

How did you start? How did you learn to fight at the table? Who was your trainer, or maybe you were your own trainer?

After meeting Zbigniew Chmielewski at the body show tournament in 2002 in Warsaw, I decided to go to his training. After receiving a few tips from the then great Champion of the discipline, I got down to a thought workout. The beginnings were sometimes very funny, especially in situations when I tried to train Armwrestling on a regular gym, having nothing to do with the centres, which are available to today's players. As for a trainer, I think that in addition to Zbyszek and other more experienced players’ tips at the competition I have always tried to be a "wheel" in our armwrestling vale;)

20110817125124_DSC_3546.JPGHow did you begin to wrestle? How did/do your  family look at it?

My family’s attitude to the sport was very positive at the beginning (his father also practices armwrestling). Over time seeing how much effort I put in preparations and injuries which I struggled with in connection with practicing armwrestling their optimism about armwrestling decreased slightly. At present my wife’s cheering me on my return to the armwrestling stage, but I think that in time it will be more and more difficult for me to find the aces up my sleeve, convincing her to accept my active participation in armwrestling

What do you do every day? Do you manage to reconcile normal life with armwrestling?

I am a lawyer in some "public law entity" every day;) By the time in which "Martin Junior" shows up in my family I think there will always be the time for training

What is your best weapon in armwrestling?

Head: D, or cunning, as "people are kind to me" say ;). But seriously, I think my weapon is the versatility. For each type of wrestling techniques I attach the same importance.

Do you feel better in the fight on left or right hand?

At the time when I have not begun the training yet I feel weak in the fight on both hands ;D Before an injury, which happened to me in 2007, my left hand was significantly stronger than the right one and my first major success were gained on the left hand. Unfortunately, since then I haven’t been able to train my left hand normally, and therefore I rarely start on it. As for the right hand, it was able to surprise even our "Armrestling Kings " yes so we'll see;)

What does your daily training look like, which weights do you train with?

In the phase of prepar20110817125124_5_.jpgation for a competition I train 3-4 times a week for 2 - 2.5 hours. I divide my training usually in 3 phases. Phase I: Construction of strength (workout practically only on weights), Phase II - isometric-endurance training (combined training, which is dominated by static exercises with a sparring partner) and the last phase, in which I try to spare as much as possible. Weights depend on my disposal and an element on which strengthening I place a special emphasis.

How do you remember your best tournament and which competition was the best in your opinion?

I think that my best competition was the Polish Cup in 2007. I managed to win the title of  the strongest man in Poland on the right hand there. It was a very nice experience especially due to the fact that few meant me among the favourites to win the title.

As for the tournament that I remember best, not only because of the sports aspect what comes to my mind I is a slightly reworked part of the song "where did those tournaments go";) I am thinking mainly about the climate of events, after which players stayed after the end of the struggles and integrated till dawn:) I am thinking mostly about the competitions in Sosnowiec in 2003 at Mariusz Grochowski’s ;) greetings to him

Do you remember your best / hardest fight? You can tell us about it?

There were many fights, which I warmly refer to, but I think the most interesting and heaviest struggle I tumbled was the fight with Sławek Głowacki on the right hand at the Polish Cup in 2006. This was my first clash with Sławek in the Open category. As it turned out, none of us had wanted, as a certain famous man said once " sell leather cheap";) I came out as the won from the battle, but the effect of the fight was that I won perhaps two fights in a further eliminations, and Sławek was tired of it and he did not approach the table that day anymore 20110817125124_DSC_3626.JPG

Are you going to take part in the Polish Championship 2011?

I not preparing in any special way as I’m not going to take part in it ;) This year I think of coming back to some armwrestling exercises after more than a year to take the form of the previous year. Since the new year I plan to start intensive preparations for the Polish Championship. The plan, which I set for myself is to get to the team for the European Championships and proudly represent our country at these competitions.

Whom do you consider the toughest opponent in your weight class?

In the case of our domestic backyard rivalry I rather think "globally" than the weight;) Grzesiu Nowak comes back to play, and there are also my arch rivals Piotrek Bartosiewicz, Sławek Głowacki, Mariusz Grochowski and Darek Muszczak.. Also Marcin Skalski joined the group as he is now the part of Polish armwrestling lead. His the one to cause the most trouble, because as a trainer I confessed to him probably all the best methods of victory over me: D

How would you rate the level of Polish / European armwrestling?

The level of the Polish armwrestling is really variable. After a period of prosperity in which our players won top places at the World Cup or European Championships a temporary apathy took place. But I think that we have so many talented players that they will finally show the peak of their abilities in the upcoming Nemiroff World Cup and at the European Championships which are going to be held in Poland.

Do you model upon anyone? Have you got any master?

In armwrestling there are many colourful characters, which could be modelled upon. Athletes like John Brzenk, Rustam Babayew, Andrey Pushkar could be admired for the time they remain at the top, and yet being very sympathetic people with whom you can talk about everything.

Do you think that an armwrestler could be successful in any other sports discipline? If so, in which one?

I belong to people who are rather sceptical about changing sports discipline later in life. I think each professional sport is governed by specific rules so that it would be difficult to achieve significant results after a short period of practicing the sport. And giving an example of players like Alexey Voyewoda or Denis Ciplenkov do not fully reflect the passage of these athletes to other sports without prior preparation.

What are your hobbies apart from armwrestling?

Nothing special;) Travelling, an interesting film and politics.

Your favourite kind of movies? Title? And the music?

I mostly passionate about films, which show the psychological portrait of the main character in a special way. Therefore, among the films that stuck in my memory I can mention "Forrest Gump," "Green Mile" and "The Pursuit of Happiness”. As to music, I was probably born about 30-40 years too late, as pieces from 70-80’s are the ones I listen to most often.

When you have free time, what do you do to calm your nerves? Do you prefer to exercise or relax in nature? Or maybe something completely different?

I try to heal "nerves" with my wife and close friends with some beer  "memoirs of the times that will never come back";)

Are you before or after holiday ? Where do you spend it?

I’m definitely after:) This year I had a pleasure to relax with my wife on the fabulous beaches of the Caribbean. I recommend

The weather was probably almost as average as this summer in Poland, wasn’t it?;)

Almost. Almost makes a big difference;)

Would you like to greet someone?

I wanted to greet mom, dad, grandma, and uncle from Rzeszów ... ... ..; DA so seriously, I greet a host of armwrestlers, both those whom I've known for many years as well as those who I still hope to meet on my armwrestling way
