A Special Interview with Iwan Matiuszenko # Armwrestling # Armpower.net

Iwan Matiuszenko - the students World Champion 2005, multiple Russian medalist, the Champion of Moscow and Moscow district, the Absolute Moscow Champion 2005, Russian Champion 2006 (in biathlon). WAF World Champion 2009, Russian Champion 2008, 2009, 20011, Absolute Moscow Champion 2005, 2010. ()

What was your shape at the Russian Championships? What interrupted you in the fight for the medal place? Why didn’t you take part in the open class?

My shape was rather medium, I didn’t prepare in any special way? My weight was only 106kg not 112kg as it was at last year’s Russian Championships. I was 4th on the left arm, on the right I would have been in the first three if I had won the first duel with Zamkarhanow. Unfortunately an old injury made its presence felt and I could not continue the fight from the bottom. That’s why I didn’t take part in Open.

What will you remember of the tournaments and what are your impressions?

My impressions are rather expressive, an interesting Open fight. Unfortunately in most on them elbows were flitting – for example in the fight of Antonow and Gazimagomiedow which is not good for armwrestlers. Some basic rules should be obeyed.

Are you going to fight at A-1, what do your preparations look like? Where else will we be able to see you this year?

I’m planning to take part in A1 in up to 110kg.

Tell us about your training. What do you pay the most attention to? What do you devote the most attention to? What are your favourite exercises? What are your strength results?

I train from 3 to 6 times a week (at different levels of preparations), between seasons there’s more of overall training and during the tournament season I perform more specialized exercises, sparrings, statics. I’ve recently presses 200kg.

Do you like the new sport “The Strength of the Grip” ? Are there any new exercises that may be useful in Armwrestling?

My attitude to this tournament in neutral, at Rolling Thunder I lifted 87kg at the first contact with the sport but I do not train any special way. Sometimes I do use Rolling thunder handle while training fingers on a block.

Do you take any dietary supplements? Who is your sparring partner?

From the supplements I take chondrosimulators regularly, and sometimes I use creatine. But I’m not really impressed by it. I spare rarely. A few weeks before the Russian Championships I fought a little with Antonow and Puzakow.
