As usually during the XX European Championships In Moscow we counted on medals of Polish seniors, especially on the brown medalist of the “World Professional Cup - Nemiroff World Cup 2009” - Grzegorz Nowakfrom Gdynia and the silver medalist of the World Championships, England 2006and brown medalist Italy 2009 - Sławomir Głowacki from Inowrocław. Of course we discreetly counted on the rest of the National Team of this year’s European Championships.

 

Among all the seniors only Grzegorz Nowak managed to win a medal, and it was the silver one. And as it turns out not for the better –right hand, but the left one. In up to 110kg class Grzegorz having such titled opponents managed to win the silver medal of the championships for left hand. He was close to have the gold medal hung on his neck. After a very stiff fight for direct entering the cup-final and then after won semi-final he was eliminated by Genadi Kvikvinia from Georgia.

“As the direct observer of the fight I can say that Grzegorz was really close to the gold medal. The preparation of our competitor was really impressing. But it turned out that an older and more experienced competitor from Georgia was cannier” – said Paweł Podlewski. 

Unfortunately for right hand Grzegorz was eliminated once by Sergiy Tokarev from Ukraine and once during the fight for entering the semi-final by Farid Uzmanov from Uzbekistan, or rather now a representative of Turkey - Farad Osmalnli (Farid has acquiesced  permanent Turkish citizenship) – and finally ranked 4th. But I would like to remind you that Grzegorz has a hard nut to crack as usually he fights at super heavy class, which is not an easy one because of the large weight of the competitors.
