In just a few short days contestants from all over the country will come to the Swedish town of Vimmerby, to fight for the title of champion.

- We are expecting just over 260 armwrestlers, the Swedish nationals normally gather about 230-240, so we are expecting a new record, we are growing every year – says Anders Axklo, president of Swedish Armwrestling Federation. - Because we have more than 260 armwrestlers coming, who all are very aware that the nationals are the key to an international career, there will surely be many surprises. The general level of Swedish armwrestling is very good, I think our men will surprise many people at international championships. No matter in which category you are, you are not safe if you see Swedish colors on the other side of the table.

The championships are held in Vimmerby, the hometown of Swedish author Astrid Lindgren, who created Pippi Longstockings and many other characters.

- Every summer more than half a million people visit the theme and theatre park called Astrid Lindgren’s World – says Anders Axklo. Because accommodation and other facilities in town have been built to cater for this amount of visitors, it is an excellent place for events like our nationals. This is the third time the championships are held in Vimmerby, the two previous were 2007 -2008.

The championships will be held on 28-29 March, the first day will be left, and the second day right hand. It has always been a 2 day event since 2008.

The Swedish Championships, like the Russian ones, will have a sub-junior category - below 12 years old.
