It’s possible that we will see the fight between Lucjan Fudała(Poland) and John Brzenk (USA) this year. This will be the fight for the PAL organization Intercontinental left hand under 95kg championship title and belt. Lucjan has been given such an opportunity thank to his great performance at the last Nermiroff World Cup 2008 and during the 19th European Championships in Bulgaria. As a bonus-this fight will take place in the capitol of the Polish Americans – Chicago.
As for John, we know that he is feeling great and he is ready to fight using his left arm as he says: „my left hand is getting better every day”.
As for now the negotiations between PAL promoters are still under way and we can inform you that the fight is very possible to take place.
We have asked Lucjan Fudała what he thinks about this, how he will prepare and is he capable of beating the legendary John Brzenk.
Armpower: PAL has selected you to fight for the Intercontinental left hand championship title and belt. The fight against John Brzenk is planned to take place in December 2009 in USA. Are you ready for this fight?
Lucjan Fudała: First of all I would like to thank PAL for giving me the chance to fight for the title and belt against such a titled athlete as John Brzenk. At the moment I am suffering from a minor wrist injury after the final fight against Ion Oncescu during the European Championships. We have a lot of time until December and I think there will be no trace of my injury and my shape will get better. I will be ready to fight against John for the title and belt.
Armpower: How would you like to get ready for the fight? What are you lacking in to win this fight?
Lucjan Fudała: After John’s last fight against Denis Cyplenkov I could see that the champion is in good shape and that he is training very hard. I am wasting my time either. I would like to strengthen my weak points. While competing at the European championships fighting against the best athletes in Europe I have realized which muscle part I need to work on. My trainings will be strictly for strenght now.
Armpower: Many arm wrestling fans have said that your win during the World Cup was just a matter of luck.
What’s your opinion on this?
Lucjan Fudała: First of all I have never heard that anyone said something like that. I think that I have proven that I am the best in the left hand under 95kg cat. by beating two times the legandary John Brzenk(once in eliminations and once in the final). You can’t beat John two times just having luck and is someone is still thinking like that he is just being jealous.
Armpower: Do you know that such a six round fight differs a lot from a tournament fight and do you think that you can hold it physically and mentally?
Lucjan Fudała: I have never competed in such an arm fight before. This will be my debut and a debut for the championship title. Yes I am aware that such a fight is much challenging than a normal tournament. I will be prepared for the fight. I will encrease my strenght and endurance. I am mentally strong; I have proven it many times.
Armpower: Let’s talk about your training. Are you training your biceps? Your wrist? How many series? How many kilograms would you like to lift before the fight with John?
Lucjan Fudała:The weights that I am lifting now are a huge achievement. The thing that matters the most is precise lifting and the effect it will have on the table. I do 3-4 series 8-10 reps. Biceps around 60kg and 98kg for the wrist. I want to increase my maximum weights by 20-25% to get ready for the fight.
Armpower: What has changed in your training once you found out that you will be fighting against John Brzenk?
Lucjan Fudała: After finding out what a huge opportunity is in front of me I have realized that it is time to spend more time on training and start to apply to my diet. I have consulted both my training and diet with body building European and World champion – Bogdan Szczotka. He has promised to help me to prepare for the fight.
Armpower:Are you planning on to compete in the World Championships 2009 in Italy? What place are you predicting? Will there be a gold medal?
Lucjan Fudała: Ofcourse I want to compete in the World Championships in Italy. I will be 100% ready for the event and I am going for the gold.
Armpower: Are you now resting or training?
Lucjan Fudała: I had two weeks of rest for regeneration after the European Championships. Now I am training having the World Championships, the World Cup and the fight against John Brzenk (which is my priority) in mind.
