The last year’s rivalry of Professional Armwrestling World Cup - Nemiroff World Cup 2008 brought Poland the four cup medals (two brown ones, silver one and gold one). This was the unquestionable success of Polish armwrestlers. It is blindingly obvious that our sportsmen are becoming counted on the international arena. They are becoming more experienced and trained. They are simply much better. One of them was for sure last year’s silver medallist of up to 70kg category - Dawid Bartosiewicz from Schoolboy Sports Club “Złoty Orzeł Choszczno” now training in Złoty Tur Gdynia.
The results of the competitor in last months are surprising. The level of his mass and strength increased diametrically. That is why Dawid decided to pass to the upper weight category during this year’s Armwrestling World Cup - Nemiroff World Cup 2008 and start at up to 78kg category.
Dawid Bartosiewicz has been training under supervision of the trainee of Polish Armwrestling Team Igor Mazurenko from Gdynia. Igor advises Dawid as well in technical problems as supplementation and nutrition. And the results are visible with the naked eye. In the first pilot episode of Real Armwrestling in cooperation with N Soprt which was produced this summer in Złoty Tur Gdynia club, Dawid fought with many Polish competitors, multiple champion of Slovakia, European and World champion - Lubomir Jagnesak. Although long time have passed since this year’s holidays take my words for Dawid’s great improvement. It is worth to notice that as he weighs only 73kg, he does the wrist exercises using dumb-bells of 85kg in 6 repetitions.
Armpower redaction visited Dawid at his training preparatory for Nemiroff World Cup 2009 and asked Polish favourite of up to 78kg category a few questions. Below especially for readers of armpower we present a short interview with the multiple champion of Poland and the medallist of Professional World Cup – Dawid Bartosiewicz.
Armpower: Why did not we see you in the National Team for European Championships in Bulgaria and World Championships in Italy?
Dawid Bartosiewicz: That time my priority was to prepare for European Armwrestling League. The departure for the European Championships deprived me of two weeks of trainings. Unfortunately because of the organizational reasons the event did not come into effect. That’s a pity as I felt I could really fight. The story of the World Championships is similar. The start at Italian World Championships also collided with the time of preparations for Nemiroff World Cup 2009.
Armpower: Is it hard to keep the position in the lead of Polish Armwrestling?
Dawid Bartosiewicz: I have been crating the Polish lead since the very beginning. I started at Polish Championships in Starogard Gdański in 2004 for the first time and I won the title of the Polish Junior Champion at once. That motivated me to the further hard work. As I had to keep the title of the champion. I managed to do that annually in following years. Now I start in senior categories were I also do well.
Armpower: And what about the international sports level? Is it hard to compete with the best in the world?
Dawid Bartosiewicz: Polish Armwrestling began to developer much later than in Rother countries. I personally begun my adventure with the sport in 2004. So I practise it only for 5,5 years. Other titled competitors practice it much longer and are much more experienced and constant trainer’s advices from older experienced colleagues. Despite all these the consistency and obstinacy in training enables me to fight with the international armwrestling lead and win medals such as at the Professional World Cup.
Armpower: Is it hard to train Armwrestling?
Dawid Bartosiewicz: For sure it is not hard to train the sports discipline if you show willing. I think that everyone can practice it. The example may be my club mate Bartosz Jakubowski from Choszczno. As disabled he trains and wins different national and international titles although he is devoid of most of his fingers. And it is a common fact that in Armwrestling efficient hands and fingers are important.
Armpower: Why this sports discipline?
Dawid Bartosiewicz: I won with much heavier and better built colleagues at school and on backyard from the beginning. And at the moment when the leading competitor of Polish Armwrestling – Artur Głowiński show me what the armwrestling is really about I immediately Got interested in it. The same was with my brother.
Armpower: Exactly! Do you beat your elder and heavier brother during sparring?
Dawid Bartosiewicz: Trainings are not about to win with my brother. They are about to train and increase your abilities. But if you ask, I have to say that our fights are always long and exhausting. I am talking about right hand. In left hand my brothert – Piotrek is simply much stronger. I may say that we have the matched sports level.
Armpower: So it means that your brother is your everyday sparring partner. Or do you train with someone else?
Dawid Bartosiewicz: Yes, I do. I always train with my brother. Grzegorz Nowak – the strongest Pole at present joined our trainings some time ago.
Armpower: And what are your plans for the future?
Dawid Bartosiewicz: I would like to hold on to the Polish and world armwrestling lead. Of course as everyone I would like to set up home and live to a great age.
And that is what we wish Dawid. And we will keep our fingers crossed during his start at this year’s Professional World Cup - Nemiroff World Cup 2009, which is coming soon, on the 6th and 7th of November 2009 by Olympic Casino Sunrise in Warsaw Hilton Hotel. Dawid – let it be gold! Or even two!!!
