“We organized the armwrestling championships in Wodzisław Śląski for the following time. The fact that also women, who were absent three years ago take part in the tournaments attests to increasing interest in them” – said Przemysław Gajdowicz – the organizer of the championships.
“The beginning was hard as it was not easy to get sponsors, but we made it. Competitors from the whole Poland – Gdynia, Warsaw, Piasecznoa, Wrocław, Jaworzno, Jastrzębie, Pszczyna i Żary” from come to the tournaments – he added.
On the 30th of January the 4th South Poland Armwrestling Championships took place in the Wodzisław Culture Centre. Competitors competed in following classes: seniors - 63 kg, 70 kg, 78 kg, 86 kg, 95 kg and over 95 kg and senior women - 60 kg and over 60 kg. The referees paid close attention to the arrangement of a shoulder, which must be set in line with the axis of the table. It is all about handicap of all the competitors before the start. There is no age limit but the children must train before instructors eyes to elaborate proper technique.
“It is a sport which does not injure opponents. The atmosphere of the tournaments is matey, we cheer on each other.
I would like to invite you to the next Poland Armwrestling Championships next year by now” – added Przemysław Gajdowicz.
Grochowski, Tomasz Szewczyk i Dariusz Muszczak watched over the proper course of the tournaments. The winners of the classes among women were: up to 60 kg - Natalia Żak from Jaworzno and over 60 kg Nikola Ipnar. The winners of senior classes were: 63 kg - unbeatable Rafał Fiołek from Żary, 70kg kg – the representative of the capital Mariusz Podgórski, 78kg - Rafał Woźny from Wałbrzych, 86 kg - Tomasz Sypniewski from Warsaw.
“Trainings are not the secrete but they are really specific. They do not have much in common with trainings at body-building gym because competitors fix their attention mainly on wrists , arms , fingers, back muscles and biceps exercises” – said Tomasz Sypniewski after the tournaments.
The up to 95 kg class was dominated by Roberta Leszko representing Wałbrzych. The winner of the above weight class was Sławomir Szakoła from Żary. The ones who ranked first of the Masters Open and Open classes were Konstanty Królik from Piaseczno i Natan Kajdas from Jaworzno.
