For several years, Artur Glowinski from Choszczno is a leading competitor of the Polish armwrestling. His sports career in armwrestling began in almost the same way the history of the Polish armwrestling was forming. Artur Głowński was one of the first competitors of the Polish armwrestling scene. Today, Artur is a professional who wins medals at national and international arena, and his starts galvanize fans and supporters of the sports discipline. To his sports successes Artur may also include many coaching successes. Many talented competitors of the Polish armwrestling have developed under his wings in Złoty Orzeł Choszczno club (Arthur is a trainer there).
As a true fighter Artur was appointed to the Polish National Team for this year's Professionals’ World Cup - Nemiroff World Cup 2010 which will be held on the 5th November (left hand) and the 6th November 6 (right hand) in Sopot Sheraton Hotel.
For several years, Arthur's crown weight class is 95kg. However, of yet, Artur weighs 87kg. At Atrur’s request the organizers of this year's Professionals’ World Cup decided to call up the competitor from Choszczno to 86 kg class. Why did Arthur dramatically decrease his weight and how does he see the rivalry at this year's Nemiroff World Cup? These and other questions are answered in this interview.
Armpower: What is Nemiroff World Cup tournament for you?
Artur Glowinski: Nemiroff World Cup tournament is a dream come true for me, because as we know, European and World Championships are held in a different place every year and not everyone can afford to travel to the tournament. And thanks to Igor Mazurenko and his sponsors we can participate every year in such a high-ranking tournament.
Armpower: Is this your first start at this event? If not what were your successes Is this a distinction for you?
Artur Glowinski: At the beginning of my career I was privileged to take off several times in this tournament, before you know it was Złoty Tur. I fought in +90kg class, but it did not do too well because I met Alexey Voyevodę and a Slovak. Then I weighed 91kg. Lack of experience made me broke not to lose one kilogram, to fit in the 90kg class. In subsequent tournaments of Nemiroff World Cup I ranked 5th twice in 95kg and 6th in 95kg class and 6th in the open class.
Armpower: Why did you change the weight class and how do you perceive yourself in a rivalry with the best competitors in the world?
Artur Glowinski: About 2 years ago I got an injury of both biceps could not train. For only half a year I have been able to train at 100%, so at present I would not have any chances for the first three in 95kg class. A fortiori my weight for today is close to 86 kg.
I think in 86 kg class there is a chance for a medal. My decision is also caused by the fact that I achieve great results while trainings, so why not.
Armpower: Do you follow any proper preparation exercises? How do you train?
Artur Glowinski: My preparations are at a full blast and I focus on many factors, but I mostly work on my weak points. I train three times a week for four and a half hours. I do not overdo with weights and I train very static, not tear. I exercise with a partner Bartek Jakubowski. Bartek is a competitor who does not leave any trainings, that is watched over, because regularity is half the success.
Armpower: Any special diet? Supplementation?
Artur Glowinski: In competing with the best world’s competitors I do not have any concerns. I have already competed with them and it even drives me so much that I cannot wait to beat them up. I reallt hope that this year I will stand on the podium and I will do everything to make it happen. And it will turn out how it will be, because it is a sport, and everything can happen. 86kg class is well stuffed and it will not be easy, and such names as Babayev, Amolis, Paskal, Bartosiewicz speak for themselves. I think I will do much better for right hand because my left hand was frequently injured. Of course, while reducing weight I had to limit the amount of food, and arrange well-matched low-calorie, high protein and providing all needed minerals diet, and supplementation of HMB and L-carnitine.
Armpower: Who do you think will win the left and right hand rivalries of the open class, and why?
Artur Glowinski: In the OPEN left hand rivalry, I bet on two competitors: Cyplenkov and Pushkar. More on the first one. However, right hand is a bigger dilemma, because this year there are many contenders in great a form for the title. But I think it will be John Brzenk, and his main rival will be Denis Cyplenkov and Rustam Babayev.
Armpower: Does anyone from the Polish Team has chances for a gold medal and why?
Artur Glowinski: I think the greatest chances for a gold medal have David Bartosiewicz and Lucian Fudała for left hand. And in case of any medals, they will be: Grzegorz Nowak, Piotr Bartosiewicz, Dariusz Muszczak, Marlena Wawrzyniak, Rafał Fiołek, Slawomir Glowacki and of course I. In Poland there are already many excellent armwrestlers, so there will be some surprises.
Armpower: What can you tell Polish fans to encourage them to come and see the Polish and international competitors on the 5th-6th November at Nemiroff World Cup?
Artur Glowinski: In advance I would like to invite everyone to see the competition live, because it is an experience of such an adrenaline that you recall it for the whole year and the climate is truly noble and playful. And we also we need your support to win!!
THANK YOU: ARTUR GŁOWIŃSKI
