Armpower: What is Nemiroff World Cup tournament for you?
Grzegorz Nowak: The answer is very simple. In the world of armwrestling there is no other more prestigious tournament. Competitors coming to the World Cup, are the ones who qualified for the national team by the starts in its championships. Of course, it also happens so that many competitors do not arrive at all. That makes the level much lower than in case of the World Cup, where the strongest competitors come who receive an invitation from PAL organization. It often happens so that they give up starting in the Championship, to get fully prepared for the Cup. Moreover, it is also the issue of weight classes, as there are much less of them. Because of that, more competitors compete in one class. And what is more the most talented competitors come.
Armpower: What were your previous successes at Nemiroff World Cup? Is this distinction for you?
Grzegorz Nowak: This will be my second appearance in the World Cup. Last year I managed to win the bronze medal and it was the greatest sports success in my life. Especially because I stood on the podium in the heaviest weight class - 95kg.That no other Pole achieved before. I am extremely satisfied with this achievement. I believe this year the start at Nemirof World Cup 2010 itself is a great honor for me, because much more world’s stars will come this than last year.
Armpower: How do you perceive yourself in a rivalry with the best competitors in the world? Who are you the most afraid of your weight class?
Grzegorz Nowak: Unfortunately, in a tournament of this magnitude and at the current level of my opponents, I cannot allow myself to rate results. I'll just say that it is a kind of honor for me to compete with the best of the best. Because only the ones like that come to this tournament. There are so many opponents that I am afraid of that it is impossible to name them. At last, most of them, are the World Champions from previous years. But it is obvious that the two most dangerous are: Denis Cyplenkov and Andrey Pushkar.
Armpower: Do you feel better for left or right hand?
Grzegorz Nowak: I suspect that my answer will surprise many of you, but I definitely feel better for the left hand.
Armpower: Do you follow any proper preparation exercises?
Grzegorz Nowak: My preparation training is very specific. I prepared it with (I think that I can safely say this) my coach Igor Mazurenko. Sorry, but I will not describe the whole training plan as it would take too much space. I train three times a week, I pay the most attention to Monday training. Namely, for all kinds of exercises on a traction and at the table. Then I train mainly the lateral pressure and in a word, the wrist wrap. During all the trainings, I try to go all out - training with the maximum loads. At the moment, so in the final phase of training, the main elements are sparrings. So, always with someone.
Armpower: Any special diet? Supplementation?
Grzegorz Nowak: That's what I always say. Diet is the basis of preparation. Without a proper nutrition, training will have much smaller effects. In case of myself, without any diet, the effect would be miserable, or there would be none at all. Supplementation is also necessary. It is incredibly difficult to deliver many nutrients that your body needs only from food. Therefore, all the missing elements, are provided by the nutrients and supplements. So Amino2000, BCAA, Glutamine, Cissus, Tribulus, Creatine, etc. Here I would like to thank Igor Mazurenko, who if it is possible, the sponsors me nutrition of FitMax company.
Armpower: Who do you think will win the rivalries of left and right hand in the open class, and why?
Grzegorz Nowak: For the left hand there is just on major favourite - Cyplenkov Denis, who twice in a row proved to be the world’s strongest man of this hand. I believe that also this year he will be unparalleled. For right hand, at the current level of competitors who have confirmed their presence, there is no absolute favourite. It is obvious that John Brzenk who repeatedly proved that he is the strongest man of the right hand will not knock under. But the fact is that many of the competitors will stand in his way. If John met a few powerful opponents in a row, he could not be able to resist and lose after a few battles. Unfortunately, the result will totally dependent on the draw.
Armpower: Does anyone from the Polish team has the chances for medals?
Grzegorz Nowak: Knowing more or less the competitors who intend to appear at this year's Nemirofie, there are not many Polish contenders for a medal. However I think, that most likely to win are two Bartosiewicz brothers who have already shown that they are able to stand on the podium of the World Cup. It seems to me that Piotr did not beat Rustam Babayev and for the second will win a silver medal. As for Dawid, the situation is more complicated because there are more competitors of thesimilar level in the 78kg class and each of them has an equal chances to stand on the podium. If a draw is conducive to David, he will have the greatest chance of the whole Polish Team to win the golden medal.
Armpower: What can you tell Polish fans to encourage them to come to Nemiroff World Cup?
Grzegorz Nowak: There is nothing to tell. This is a must see! I am sure that many of you will be extremely surprised to see these emotions, the adrenaline and, above all, a magnificent spectacle, which is Armwrestling.
