This year it will be easier for me! - says Radoslaw Staron

Only 11 days left till the Nemiroff World Cup. So we did not want to bother a leading Polish armwrestler, Radoslaw Staron. So we decided to ask his sister - Natalia, who also is a competitor, some questions. Natalia was perfect in a role of the press spokesman for his older brother.

Natalia, as a competitor and as a sister - how do you assess the state of Radek’s preparations for the World Cup competitions and his current form?
Natalia Staron: As the competitor I have to say that Radek’s form and how he applies himself to training is surprising. He tries to review each exercise , and he know exactly what it enables him to achieve. However, he is not only geared for success. Thanks to this he remains on such a high armwrestling level for so long. We all know that overconfidence can make a player lost. As a sister I'm proud of him, as he won the world vice championship last year and worked on it very hard.

In 2010, it was probably easier for him? No one was afraid of him? Do you think that now Radek feels pressure? Will it help or not let, Lord, can it "burn" him?
Natalia: Despite appearances, it was harder last year! Just because few believed in him, and he showed how strong and technically good he is. Radek is not a person who bends under pressure, and certainly this start is very important and prestigious for him. It is a distinction for his hard work in the gym and hundreds of sacrifices, as he has wife and a little daughter.

Do you think, Radek may surprise his opponents? Does he have any "secret weapon"?
Natalia: I think that he may surprise all with diligence of how well he is prepared for these tournaments. He is an observer, he captures the opponent's weak points and is able to exploit it.

What is his strongest side as a player at the table? Technique, endurance? Or something else?
Natalia: That he knows what he comes to the table for, for sure. He examines, thinks and then concludes.

 He does not pass up or neglect an enemy. He also surprised me with his armwrestling knowledge more than once. He loves the sport.

What is Radek as an athlete and as an older brother?
Natalia: As an athlete – he does not treat a lose as a failure but as an encouragement for further preparations, development and correction of the mistakes. He is certainly a professional at what he does. He trains hard, changes and improves something all the time, enhances his workout. As a brother - he helps to understand different things when he advises and brings to the ground when you need it. He is 9 years older and has trained rmwrestling much longer than I have, by the way he took me to the first workout.

Did you and the whole family expect such a success the last year?
Natalie: We were certainly positive. We knew Radek would not surrender easily. And we were right!

How did you react to his success?
Natalie: We’ve been very proud of him. I always agonise his start more than my own. I think that as a club and as a family we won something with him - faith in it that if you really want something will finally be achieved.

What is the most beautiful in armwrestling in your opinion?
Natalia: Adrenaline, strength and competition. I love the atmosphere of armwrestling competition. This sport has something extraordinary in itself, which attracts both women and men. For this sport you must have the appropriate character as not only the muscular strength but also technique and endurance respond for a victory. For me it is a discipline in which I can let off steam and be "a tough man" for a while,:-))

Are you tracking the quotations, estimates of the open category at the Cup? Who do you bet on in this category?
Natalia: Is that Cyplenkov again? I do not know, but I think that Travis Bagent strongly cheered by John Brzenk can mix a lot.
