Announces Terence Opperman. ()
A top athlete of South Africa, experienced competitor, who has taken part in many professional tournaments, ambitious, modest, former rugby player and athlete practising martial arts (and by the way - a very nice guy), Terence Opperman announces he will perform well in Poland.
I know Terence quite well and I've always admired his modesty and great respect for the "icons"of our sport, such as John Brzenk. Modest as he is, Terence knows his value. I have to admit I have great sympahy for this athlete. This year Terence announced it will be his best season. He also said that the whole team from South Africa will do well at the World Championships.
Let's give him the floor:
As the championships in Poland are coming up, I've already taken care of all the formalities, such as flight tickets, visa and stuff like that.
I feel great! I feel that this year it will be my best performance ever at the World Championships! Ever since I armwrestled at the World Cup in Japan for the first time in 2005 - my results are getting better and better. This year I will be competing in the 100 kg category. Now I weigh one hundred kilos, so I will not have any problems with losing extra weight before the competition. I'm hoping to walk away with victory this year! Never in my life have I trained as hard as I am trining now. I'm in top form.
PeSzy, I respect my rivals, but now, this will be my year in the category of 100 kg!
Our whole team, including 3 seniors (two of them will be competing in the 100 kg class, one in the 90 kg class) and 2 juniors (both will be competing in the 80 kg class), are determined to bring some medals from Poland. This year our team does not include ladies.
Our team will win four gold medals.
What can I say? If anyone else promoted himself like that, I would say he's exaggerating a bit. But, knowing Terence Opperman's modesty, I know it's not like that. The 100 kg class may be really exciting at this year's championships.
How do you feel about it?
