Music or no music? How to train? ()
I got inspired to write this article after hearing countless discussions in the gym on the topic of music during workout.
Browsing the Internet for information about music and training, I’ve found a work on the influence of music on human body. I’ve found some interesting info. I’ve learned that Pitagoras, aside from being a mathematician, was also an Olympic boxing master. And he’s also invented a special sound – canon – monochord - which broke musical intervals into exact bits. It’s great when a sound informs as how much time we have for a set, and how much for rest.
Some articles claim that rock music has influence on the human body. It turns out that it’s good to listen to particular music while working out. What’s more, the “heaviness” of the music depends on the weight that we’re working out with.
In the 70’s, at the Joe Weider training center, a certain occurrence was observed: young people who participated in rock concerts, felt stronger with time. Tests have shown that this was because of rising testosterone levels. And we all know that testosterone is responsible for muscle growth. We could conclude that rock music might be a means to stimulate muscle growth. It also turned out that bass sounds of heavy music activate the brain in a way that tenses muscle.
There are certain rules to choosing your workout playlist. It should be constant, without violent breaks in rhythm and mood. There should be no stressful songs on it. If the music is almost unnoticeable, then we can say we have the perfect playlist.
How do armwrestlers train?
Alexey Yatsyk: “I don’t care what sort of music is played when I work out. I can train without music, sometimes music actually kills my working mood. I usually turn on some music, buy not always listen to it. During a tournament I cannot listen to music too much, because I might not hear my name being called out, and the venue music is not always up to my taste. When I’m preparing for a fight, I do so without any music.”
Xenia Bezuglaya: “ I train to fast and rhythmic music, it’s very important for me!”
Dmitry Ionov: “I think music should be suited to the given activity, it can play an important role in training”.
Bogdan Ivahnenko: “For me, music plays an important role. It’s 100% instant mood, especially when you’re playing your favorite tracks.”
Alexandra Ozerova: “I need something to fire me up!”
Roman Gromov: Even though you can train without music, favorite music makes training more effective and intense! I prefer heavy rock, rap, R’n’B”
Zarina Nuridinova: “I don’t train with music too often, but when I go heavy with my weights, I listen to heavy music. When I do cardio, I prefer dubstep.:
