Armwrestling born in Costa Rica thanks to Erick Valverde, who in 1996 participated at the World Championship in America, he performed the first events in our country and is the founder of the first school.

Later in 2001, Costa Rica was present at the Worlds in Italy by Erick Valverde and German Gutierrez, a founder of the second school, being eighth and seventh in the world respectively. Edgardo Picado went along with them, but he suffered two months before a car accident so he could not attend; the accident made Edgardo to be a Paralympic athlete.

Since 2006 Edgardo Picado takes the responsibility of chairing armwrestling, creating partnerships, organizing events and finally in 2013, the Costa Rican Federation of Armwrestling has born.

In 2014 Edgardo Picado represents Costa Rica at the Worlds for Disabled in Poland with the support of the Paralympic Committee Integral and open way being double World champion on the left and right hand. Take the course at Club Don Igor Mazurenko and thereby manages to gather more requirements in Costa Rica to achieve national representation.

The great achievement is due to the support and teachings of Igor and Anna Mazurenko, who have driven an armwrestling development for Costa Rica.

After this Federation bought a Mazurenko Armwrestling Equipment table and an official platform. Now there are some plans to buy more tables and platforms.

Among the most outstanding athletes in Costa Rica are: Erick Valverde, Germán Gutiérrez, Max Quesada, Fabio Hidalgo, Dennis Acuña, Elias Campos, Erick Arguedas, Luis Ramirez, Anthony and Minor Orozco, Maykel Guzman, Manuel Vargas, Kristín Castillo and others.

This year we’ll have a great team to the Worlds: Fabio Hidalgo, current National absolute champion of 80 kg, Max Quesada, for years champion 70 kg category and Edgardo Picado, 90 kg to Para-Worlds in Bulgaria. In addition Edgardo Picado is expected to compete again in November at the World Cup for Disabled.

The clear aim of Costa Rican Federation is to grow armwrestling in the country and to create in 2017 a real selection with representatives in all weights and categories; according to the contribution made by the state to our organization.
