On Saturday the 26^th of September 2009 we were witnesses of the following armwrestling struggles in the Sports and Recreation Centre in Dzierzoniow near Wroclaw. It was the first even of this kind in the region and was called the 1st Open Armwrestling Championships in Dzierzoniow.

In general over 30 armwrestlers, who had the ability to compete in 5 weight categories:  85kg, +85kg, men open, women open and children open, registered.

In the sunny afternoon the first fought off category was the men category - up to 85kg. 10 armwrestlers took part in it. Rafał Wozny, the representative of the Herakles Walbrzych, won without any problems beating Rafala Ozeg from Strzegom in the final fight.

The next men category was over 85kg. Here in the final fight we saw Tomasza Pelczara from the Black Scorpion Przylek club (he reached the cup-final with no failure) and the winner of the semi-final fight Piotr Szczerba from Koniecpol. Unfortunately the lucky streak of the competitor from Przelyk finished in the final fight. Piotr Szczerba defeated  undefeated Tomasza Pleczara twice in the cup-final. Thereby the armwrestlef from Koniecpol  stood on the highest stair of the podium of the over 85kg category.

The children open category produced a lot of remarkable emotions. The unusual willing of gaining the cup for the best junior and commemorative medals made them be stiff during fights. Cheering of the audience and parents caused the amazing atmosphere. Unfortunately as it happens at every tournaments  - someone had to lose. Luckily in this weight category failures at the table were compensated by the organizers with sweet prizes.

Finally Krystian Orlowski was third in the category. Patryk Dreszer who lost the final round twice with his much older friend was second. And the best among juniors in Dzierzoniow became Kacper Szyc

Among women the unbeatable was Małgorzata Ostrowska from Strzegom, who was first. The two second places in this weight category belonged to: announcing the start of her adventure with the Professional armwrestling Joanna Hrabia from Wałbrzych  and Magdalena Owczarek.

The last fought off category was men open. 12 competitors decided to start here. Rafal Wozny from Walbrzych reached the final fight with no failures. After the winning each elimination fight Rafal was calmly waiting for the winner of the semifinal fight: Piotr Szczerba or Robert Leszko. The semifinal was the source of the amazing emotions: the very long and equaled fight in the hook and extreme exhaustion of both of the men.  It was obvious that both of the competitors pinned their hopes on. They fought until the end of their abilities. After over one and a half minute fight Robert’s arm failed and Piotr Szczerba become the winner of the semifinal. Of course after such an exhausting semifinal fight the favorite of the final fight was rested  Rafal Wozny. And that is how it was. Piotrek realized during the placing at the table that He did not have any chances to defeat the representative of Walbrzych that day. The best of the best in Dzierzonow finalny become Rafał Woźny. Congratulations.

We wish the organizers and participants of the 1^st Open Armwrestling Championships in Dzierzoniow the repeated meting and I hope that next year  in Dzierzoniow the amount of the competitors would increase and the rivalry would be even stiffer that this year’s.
