Last Saturday (20-02-2010) in Hungary, in the city of Good (near Budapest) Junior Armwrestling Visegrad GP, for juniors up to 20 years old took place for the 4th time. Some of you remember that city for sure. A few years ago (in 2006) the 16 European Championships, where the Polish National Team won 5 European medals and a good position in team classification, took place there
During this year’s juniors’ rivalry, 76 male and female competitors from 5 countries challenged in the direct rivalry in an auditorium. Up to this year only Hungarians, Slovaks and Checks were allowed to take part in the tournaments. This year also representatives of Poland and Belgium were invited. It is a pity that we got to know about the starts of our juniors so late, because otherwise our team would for sure be much more numerous. Finally we have managed to gather the team of 5: Dominik Śliwiński, Dawid and Czarek Izbiński, Przemek Żegota and Natan Kajdas.
The boys did really well and showed all that Polish juniors are in the running among their contemporaries.
Because of quite limited number of weight classes, each weight was full of armwrestlers.
All together our team collected 7 medals and ranked us (to our surprise) 3rd of the general team classification (the 1st were Hungary and 2nd Slovakia). Not that bad! Isn’t it?! It was a nice surprise for us as our small representation overtook much more numerous the Checks and the Belgians.
Additionally I was asked to become a referee (Tomasz Szewczyk) of the tournaments, for what I was honoured with the commemorative statue. I hope next year the Poles will gather a team of at least 20 competitors and will win a gold medal for their team.
The Results of the Polish National Team:
Up to 65 kg class:
Dominik Śliwiński – the silver medal right hand
Up to 70 kg class:
Przemek Żegota – the gold medal left hand and the silver medal right one
Up to 75 kg class:
Cezary Izbiński – the gold medal right hand
Dawid Izbiński – the brown medal right hand
Up to 80 kg class:
Natan Kajdas – the brown medal right and left hand
Congratulations!
