The next abroad trip of Polish competitors made us prove Europe for the following time, that we are in the running. Quite small team of 4 competitors went to the international tournaments "Golem’s Hand” in Check Republic and fought for the main trophies. We came back with four medals: three gold and one silver.
The tournaments took place on the 6th of February in Brno. Scenic town hosted Armwrestlers from the whole Europe for one day. During the rivalry we had the chance to admire struggles of over 100 competitors inter alia from Check Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Bulgaria, Austria, Greece, Latvia. Of course the competitors of European lead as: Kollarovics Laszlo, Dobrovič Radoslav, Szasz Gyorgy and others came. Among such a huge international competition Polish sportsmen did really well.
Left hand:
Up to 70kg class was dominated by only one competitor - Mariusz Podgórski from Pyton Warsaw. 16 competitors stood for start. Mariusz entered cup-final without any problems. No one could stop the left hand of the competitor from Warsaw, he was simply unbeatable that day. The Pole has already met his final rival from Hungary - Tarr Roland, whom he beat in a split second in the eliminations. But his final did not took place as the rival got injured and did not stand for the fight. It was the first and at the same time gold medal for Poland!!
In the next weight class – up to 80kg also the Pole, Rafał Woźniak from Herakles Wałbrzych regined. With no lost he entered the cup-final, where he gave Benáček Patrikow no odds beating him in belts. Another Polish representative also stood for stars - Kamil Kryński from Pyton Warsaw. Unfortunately he cannot regard the start as the successful one as he was on one of the last positions.
To sum up: in the left hand rivalry, the small Polish Armwrestling team came back with two medals.
The gold ones! And how was right hand?
Right hand:
In up to 70kg class rivalry, similarly as for left hand, the winner was Mariusz Podgórski from Pyton Warsaw, who laid no odds on his rivals. He went through eliminations with no defeat. In the cup-final he easily beat Gettler Pavol from Slovakia, whom he also beat at eliminations, winning the 3rd gold medal for Poland. Congratulations!
In the next class – up to 80kg two of our representatives: Rafał Woźny from Herakles Wałbrzych and Kamil Kryński from Pyton Warsaw started. Rafał was once defeated in eliminations, after a long fight with Svačina Robin from Check Republic. Svačina entered the cup-final without no defeats and his rival was Rafał for the second time. However also this time he also turned to be better in the hook fight, silver for Poland. However our second competitor Kamil finished his rivalry on the 7th position for 18 competitors starting.
The next class where we could follow struggles of the Poles was the senior up to 100kg class. Here Robert Leszko from Herakles Wałbrzych started. However he ranked out of the podium (6th position), but he showed heart waged long, stiff and even fights. And believe me, there were some of them. As there were 20 competitors starting in the class.
It’s obvious that the competitions are not only the main stage but also the side table, where everyone wanted to work out with others. Competitors willingly fought with Mariusz Podgórski, who gave competitors heavier than him of 30kg (medallists of 90kg and 100kg classes) no odds!! He made an impression on everyone.
To sum up, the Poles put their best foot forward, showing that armwrestling is on a high, constantly increasing level in Poland. I would like to thank the competitors and organizers for creating the performance, which gave us a lot of positive emotions, and for the high organizational level.
