A record number - as many as 1200 athletes, registered for the XXXV World Armwrestling Championships. Athletes will be competing in 158 weight classes on 9 tables.
At a press conference devoted to the XXXV World Armwrestling Championships gathered the organizers of the event, including WAF President, Assen Hadjitodorov, a representative of FAP, Paweł Podlewski, and an active competitor and FAP President, Igor Mazurenko.
I am delighted that armwrestling competitions are held in such a nice place, which is Gdynia - says Assen Hadjitodorov, president of the Word Armwrestling Federation. - I remember the first championship organized by Igor Mazurenko in 2001. For 13 years he’s been trying to lift the quality of this event to a new level and he succeeded. I’m proud of him and I’m really glad that the Polish federation is responsible for the organization of the World Cup in a sport, which is developing so fast all over the world.
It will be unique XXXV World Armwrestling Championships with more than 1200 athletes taking part in the competition. As many as 1500 guests from all over the world will visit Gdynia, including competitors’ partners.
This is a record number of competitors - highlights Hadjitodorov. – Never before have so many athletes participated in an armwrestling competition. We’ll see competitors from various groups including: juniors, men, women, the disabled, and masters.
This fact clearly indicates that armwrestling is a sport for practically everyone. That’s why we invite you all to join us and feel the excitement here.
Also Paweł Podlewski of FAP invited everyone to become part of the show.
The championships will be held on 4-7 September from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. - said Podlewski. – Athletes will be competing on 9 tables in the following classes: juniors, masters, grand masters, disabled, seniors and older juniors under 21. With competitors coming from 49 countries it is the largest championship in the history of armwrestling competitions. Until now, 800 - 900 athletes would participate in the show, this time 1200 armwrestlers will enter the competition.
This year we will have a chance to see one of the first representatives of Polish armwrestling and a disabled world champion in category of 55 kg, Konrad Krawczuk, taking part in the championship for the first time after a long break.
I’ll have a chance to compete again after a long break at this year’s World Championships - said Krawczuk. - This year the competition will be more fierce than in previous years. For sure, a lot will be going on, so you should come and see it yourselves. I’m returning to form. I will do my best. It’s a sport for everyone, including the disabled.
