When he was a little boy, he dreamt of becoming the world’s strongest man. He made his dreams become reality with armwrestling. ()
As a little boy he dreamt of being the strongest man in the world, just like his father was to him.
- He always seemed to be the strongest guy in the world to me – recalls Doug.
He had a sports vein since he was little. He started training when he was 7, with baseball. When he was eleven he got into football. Armwrestling came at a later date.
- I beat some amateurs in the beginning – recalls Allen. - Then I went pro and got a lesson in humility. But it didn’t take me long to get better, I started placing well and earning money.
His first tournament was the Mike Gould Classis in Canada in 2005, but he started training for real four years later.
- I got crazy about armwrestling watching it on TV, and when I first put my arm on a table, I knew that that was that! I felt it – says Doug. - I always knew I was good, I won fights right from the beginning of my career.
When he recalls his first successes, he means his first money. He won that in Kentucky in 2006. He had his first injury in 2010.
- My arm popped, I never went to a doctor, it still bothers me to this day – says Doug. Sometimes I can almost forget it, but some days it’s really killing me.
How does he see his future?
- Bright – Doug sums up. – I see myself as the best of the best, for a long time to come.
