I would like to show you "typical" armwrestling clubs in several countries. It will be several episodes. First about Sweden. I saw the photo below and asked Daniel Augustsson about his club. I invite you to read!

How would you describe such a "typical" Swedish club?

A typical Swedish club has a very mixed age and gender of its members. If you look at the association I belong to, the age range is nine years up to sixty years. Our club has 11 female athletes and 36 male athletes. All Swedish associations are built on democracy where they have an annual meeting every year to elect the board. During the year, we also have member meetings to raise important issues in the association.

Skänninge Armbrytarklubb is located in the middle of Östergötland in the small town of Mjölby.

PEOPLE?

A great mix of people. Everything from doctors, engineers, welders, warehouse workers, students. What do they do besides sports? Some of our members train at the gym when they are not training at the club. Others ride, practice boxing, etc.

We belong to a sports organization. We can apply for various funds for our clubs but not directly for our athletes. It feels like something is happening in Swedish arm sports.

Each association is growing in membership, and we are starting to get more attention.

PeSzy: Are you "recognizable" or are you in local media?

Daniel Augustsson:

It is mostly locally that we are recognized if you ignore the arm wrestling world where Skänninge club is well known. Our premises are located in a basement in the city of Mjölby. We are working hard to change the venue as the one we have is not adapted to PARA wrestlers and is now getting too small. We now have ten tables set up and two Mazurenko machines in another room along with weights.

PeSzy: When exactly - a group of people felt they were a select “team”?

Daniel Augustsson: Throughout the time the club has existed, we have worked hard with the community and the feeling of belonging to the "team".

We are here for each other and help each other with development.

How it started?

Daniel Augustsson: It was me and a guy whose name is Fredrik Rylander who started the club in 2003. Unfortunately Fredrik is no longer in the club and has stopped arm wrestling. I have been chairman since the beginning, although at each annual meeting I say that it might be time for renewal, which the club obviously does not agree with as I have never received a vote against me. I am also one of the club's 5 coaches.

PeSzy: Thanks for the interview and best regards! Soon, a "typical" club from... will be a surprise.

Daniel Augustsson: I greet the readers!

ATTENTION! A few more new photos!
