I've decided to do a little survey, to help me understand how could we interest a common person in armwrestling? My questions were answered by people on the street and by internauts.

Aleksey, 28 yrs, barber, Moscow: Armwrestling is a boring discipline. To me, sports are dynamics and emotions. Does armwrestling have that? From time to time you can see exciting fights. But I' m certain that this sport coud never take the place of boxing or hockey. The only way to draw my attention to it is if one of my friends starts doing it.

Stanislav, 19 yrs, student, Minsk: I went to a couple of armwrestling tournaments, to cheer for my friend at the university. It's so very boring! Maybe higher – level tournaments are more interesting, but this … I takes very long for the rivals to take position, then they break up, get strapped together, make a foul move, and then they set up again … And so on and so forth. If you watch a friend fight, the time flies by, but the wait takes forever. It seems that the only way for me to enjoy the sport is if everyone fighting is a friend of mine.

Armen, 34 yrs, businessman, Krasnodar: I've seen a couple of armwrestling videos by accident.

It's not that bad, but on the other hand – it's quite boring and static. I think that investing some money into making it a show would make it so much more audience – friendly. It should be much more planned and scripted, like wrestling. Promotional videos, a walkout before a fight, individual costumes, some scenography – that's what's missing. More colours and intrigue – that's what draws audiences.

Piotr, 31 yrs, car mechanic, Orla: A pub. A fish and beer. Friends and girls. And in the background – tables with brutal, roaring dudes. Now that's fun, emotions and a show. That's the kind of armwrestling I would like to see, and maybe even compete in.Of course, it's not very sportslike, but I always thought of armwrestling as more of a bar sport.

Most of the armwrestling audiences are made up of fighters and friends; there's a lack of other types of people. The men who answered my questions had one common thought – more show and more excitement! Armwrestling is developing, becoming more and more professional and interesting. Maybe in the future the sport will satisfy the needs of common man, and become as popular as other disciplines.
